Fighting Fraud

Did you know that it is estimated that property and casualty insurance fraud costs over $30 billion annually? This creates a burdensome problem for insurers and policyholders, and results in higher premiums and increased operating costs. In addition, insurance fraud is a crime in most states. 

Zurich recognizes the scope of the insurance fraud problem, and we are committed to resisting such fraud through a proactive approach to preventing, detecting and investigating insurance fraud.

Fraud takes many forms.  One type involves individuals attempting to cheat their insurance company by providing false information regarding a claim.  For more information regarding claim fraud, or to report a claim fraud, please see the Claim Fraud section below.

· Staged auto accidents 
· Inflated automobile and property repairs 
· Staged auto thefts 
· Exaggerated, unnecessary, or phony medical treatment 
· Slip and fall schemes 
· Arson

Things you can do to help prevent fraud

· Carry a disposable camera and take photos of damage to involved vehicles or property
· Get the names, addresses and telephone numbers of drivers, all passengers and witnesses 
· Call the police, even if the accident is minor 
· Notify your insurance agent about the accident immediately 
· Be alert when driving

· Call the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) hotline: 1-800-TEL-NICB (1-800-835-6422)
